Public Transportation

Belgrade is an easy city to navigate. Many of the best and most interesting place to visit are located within a three kilometer (roughly two miles) radius of Trg. Republike. This center in old part of Belgrade contains Kalemegdan, the zoo, Princess Ljubica's Palace, the Ethnographic museum, the Nikola Tesla museum, the National Theater, and Knez Milosa, which is a walking street filled with shops, restaurants, and cafes. Although there is no underground, there is a low cost and efficient transportation system including trains, trams, and buses. The city has an excellent website to calculate which bus, tram, or train to take at: http://www.gsp.rs/dnevne_linije1.htm.

Please note that the English section is still under construction. You can still figure which line to take by using Google Translate after you are in the Serbian site. 

Taxis

Taxis are safe and can be found on almost every corner in Belgrade. Most populated areas have taxi stands and you can also hail empty taxis on the street. Many tourists report that they have at least one ride that they were overcharged for. Make sure that any taxi you get in has the "TX" at the end of the license plate. This ensures that they are registered vehicle.

If you don't want to risk not finding a taxi on the street, many excellent taxi companies can be called or text for pick-up at the time of your choosing. Below is a list of favorite taxi companies used by expats:
